BA 6 - Canada/Butterflies/Math/Sophocles

Assignment 1: Even though Canada is our next door neighbor, you probably don't know much about this country or its people. Visit this site to learn more about Canada, then answer the questions below:


1. What title is given to Canada's head of government?
2. When do Canadians celebrate their independence?
3. How many provinces and territories make up Canada?

Assignment 2: Butterflies are among the most beautiful creatures in the world. And you can attract them to your backyard just by planting certain types of plants. Learn more about butterflies by exploring this site and answer the questions below: The Butterfly Zone


1. What type of plant does the yellow sulfur butterfly prefer?
2. Could you find a pearl crescent butterfly on the Pacific Coast?
3. How do butterflies identify their favorite plants?

Challenge: What are the stages of the complete life cycle of a butterfly?

Assignment 3: What can be more fun and challenging than a brainteaser? Use a calculator to help you figure out the answer to the puzzle below:


Write the numbers 1 to 9 in descending order (9, 8, 7, etc.) on a piece of paper. Place seven plus signs (+) between the numbers to create an equation that totals 99. Which two numbers did you have to group together?

Note: If you don't get the correct answer the first time, simply click teh "Back" button on your browser and rearrange the plus signs.

Challenge: Write the numbers 9 to 1 again. This time, find a sum that equals 99 using only six plus signs.
